Captain Cee Bee remains a 20/1 chance with Sky Bet for the Arkle after he made a winning chase debut at Naas on Thursday.
Eddie Harty’s 2008 Supreme Novices’ winner made light of a near two-year absence and weakness in the market to seal victory over Zaarito at odds of 4/1 with a fine leap at the last.
He tired up the run-in allowing the runner-up to get within an ace of spoiling the dream comeback, but the Festival winner held enough in reserve to see off his rival by a neck under Tony McCoy.
Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: ‘It was a relief to see all the old ability was there on his return from injury, but the Arkle is shaping up into one of the hottest renewals in years and we have left his price unchanged.’
Meanwhile, Paddy Power were more impressed and cut him to 14-1 from 20-1 for next year's Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham.
