Long Run is the 3/1 favourite with the sponsors for next year’s totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup after winning one of the most exciting renewals of the race in recent history under Sam Waley-Cohen.
Nicky Henderson’s gelding picked off previous winner Denman heading to the last as the 2008 winner ran on to finish seven-lengths second with dual winner Kauto Star a further four lengths back in third.
“Long Run looks to have the world at his feet after proving himself round Cheltenham for the first time and he’s the one they all have to beat back at Prestbury Park in twelve months time,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
Earlier on the card, Zarkandar ran out the impressive winner of the JCB Triumph Hurdle and has been given a quote of 10/1 for next year’s Champion Hurdle with totesport.
