Glorious Goodwood 2012 gets under way on Tuesday when three Group races provide the highlights on the first of a superb five days of horse racing action.
Most racing fans will, of course, be eagerly awaiting the latest appearance of unbeaten superstar Frankel in the Sussex Stakes on day two of the meeting.
But there is plenty for punters to get their teeth stuck into on the opening day when a huge total of 108 runners have been declared for the seven races.
The group races have unsurprisingly attracted the smallest fields, with just seven lining up for the seven-furlong Lennox Stakes (15:10 BST).
Bet365 make Sir Henry Cecil-trained mare Chachamaidee their well-backed 7/4 favourite for this race, the five-year-old having scored over course and distance at Glorious Goodwood 12 months ago in the Oak Tree Stakes.
There are also seven runners in the Bet365 Gordon Stakes (14:35 BST), a Group 3 event over a mile and a half which is traditionally a trial for the St Leger.
The favourite here at 11/8 with Bet365 is Michelangelo, one of several horses trained by John Gosden who could take on Triple Crown-seeking Camelot in the season’s final Classic at Doncaster.
There is a bigger line-up of 12 runners declared for the Group 3 Bet365 Molecomb Stakes (15:45 BST), the opening two-year-old race of the meeting.
This five-furlong dash has attracted a high-quality bunch and the likely favourite is Morawij, whose only defeat so far came when fourth in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
It really is a top-notch opening day of Glorious Goodwood 2012 when three big-field handicaps also provide a great chance to pick a big-priced winner.
