Great Endeavour powered to a sensational success in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon.
David Pipe’s grey put up a fantastic display at Prestbury Park and despite clattering the last fence, he came home in isolation after surging clear of the classy field.
Quantitativeeasing finished second but he was seven lengths off the winner, with Divers back in third and Aerial in fourth.
A huge pre-race gamble saw Wishfull Thinking go off a well backed favourite, but despite putting up a great round of jumping, he faded coming down the hill and ante post favourite Mon Parrain was never involved.
Delighted winning jockey Timmy Murphy explained: "He knows how to train winners, which makes my job easier.
"This is a bit special. He had a great novice year - low profile - and he's improved all the time."
Great Endeavour actually ran in the race twelve months ago but the superstar could only finish sixth and David Johnson’s seven-year-old was allowed to go off at 8/1 on a superb day for the Pipe team.
