Kauto Star could run in the 2012 King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day if connections decide to keep the legendary chaser in training.

The twelve-year-old was last seen pulling up in the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but the superstar had already added another Betfair Chase and King George to his glowing CV in the 2011/12 National Hunt season.

Trainer Paul Nicholls and owner Clive Smith have stayed clear of making any firm decisions on the future of Kauto Star, but Smith explained: "The idea is to see where we are in a month to six weeks. Clifford Baker (Nicholls' head lad) rides him every day - if anybody is going to know it is him."

Meanwhile, Nicholls commented: "We will give him a month's work and then Clive and I will have a chat. There is only one possible race he can run in and that is the King George. He would not be ready for the Betfair Chase (at Haydock on November 24)."

Followers of the horse appear to be divided in their opinions when it comes to Kauto Star and his possible retirement but as you can see from our Kauto Star gallery, the chaser has already been responsible for some fantastic racing moments.
