Kauto Star made it an incredible fifth King George success at Kempton on Boxing Day as the superstar jumped to a remarkable victory in the Grade One highlight.

Paul Nicholls' legendary chaser regained his King George VI Chase crown in a sensational renewal of the world famous race and the superstar ran his rivals ragged with an incredible round of jumping at Kempton.

Last year's winner and 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Long Run started favourite for the race, but Nicky Henderson's French import could never get passed his arch-rival and though he looked to be closing at the line, King Kauto had too much under the hands of Ruby Walsh.

Kauto Star is now 4/1 second favourite to win the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup and David Williams at Ladbrokes explained to Cheltenhampro: "We've endured some ugly Boxing Day results in recent years but this has been a bloodbath. It was one favourite after another as the results rolled in. By the time Kauto Star and Long Run lined up we were on the ropes. Kauto Star has a unique following in racing and he lifted the Kempton roof to deliver a knock-blow on a historic day for racing and punters."

A delighted Paul Nicholls said: "He's just awesome and I knew we had him in serious order.

"I don't know why he wasn't quite right last year.  It was a massive plus having Ruby here today and it's just unbelievable.

"It's amazing. He's just the best.  If he gets to Cheltenham in that form he'll be the one to beat (in the Gold Cup)."
