The countdown to the 2011 King George continues and it will come as no surprise to see Long Run sitting at the head of the betting for the Boxing Day showpiece, as tickets for the world famous meeting continue to sell fast.
Nicky Henderson’s 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner will be looking to defend his crown in the race and the nation’s leading bookmakers are offering short prices on the ultra-talented chaser jumping his way to another Grade One victory over the Christmas period.
The French import hasn’t looked back since he arrived in Britain and the youngster looks set for another incredible season over fences. With his jumping improving with every start and with class in abundance, he will be tough to beat in any of the races he lines up in this year.
He is sure to be popular, but he will face a field full of formidable rivals and there wouldn’t be a dry eye on course if Kauto Star could add a fifth King George to his incredible CV. After bouncing back to form in the Betfair Chase at Haydock, his followers will be looking to back the dual-Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and with Ruby Walsh set for the ride, it should be all systems go at Ditcheat
If Master Minded lasts three miles around Kempton, then he too would have a fantastic chance of beating his stablemate Kauto Star and supporters of Long Run would have to fear the dual-Champion Chaser.
Master Minded flopped on his return in the Monet’s Garden Old Roan Chase at Aintree at the start of the season, but he looked right back to his best when denying Somersby in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot last month and he will arrive at Kempton full of confidence.
Equally, there will be plenty of people looking to take on Long Run with the hugely talented Captain Chris who could make his seasonal debut in the Grade One highlight.
