Leading jockey Jason Maguire believes that Peddlers Cross will relish the step up in trip when he runs over two and a half miles in the John Smith's Aintree Hurdle on Saturday week.
Donald McCain’s superstar lost his unbeaten record to the hugely talented Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but the superstar still impressed plenty of racing fans with a brave display in the two-mile showpiece.
The six-year-old was in the winner’s enclosure at last year’s Grand National meeting and Maguire can see the Fighting Fifth winner returning next week.
"The trip will play to his strengths. He's won over two and a half there before and he seems to have come out of the Champion Hurdle well," Maguire explained.
"I saw him the other morning and he looks great, so we're looking forward to him going to Aintree."
Peddlers Cross is likely to clash with Nicky Henderson’s Binocular in what should be an enthralling renewal of the Merseyside feature.
