Leading Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is being investigated by the advertising regulator after their latest TV ad was released at the weekend.

The clip asks viewers to spot the "transgendered ladies" among a crowd of racing fans at the Cheltenham Festival and the Advertising Standards Authority has admitted they have received a number of complaints since it was aired for the first time.

CheltenhamFestival.net posted the video after it was first released and they received a number of comments after readers were invited to share their thoughts on the clip.

It is not the first time Paddy Power have caused a stir with some of their advertising campaigns and they were responsible for the most complained-about ad of the year in 2010 when they featured a number of blind footballs kicking a cat.

In 2011 Paddy Power also capitalised on Ryan Giggs’ controversial affair with Imogen Thomas by hiring the model for a new advert.

A Paddy Power spokesman said that the ad campaign has generated "plenty of public response" which it says has been "healthily mixed".

"Several members of the UK transgender community are cast in the ad, and it was also cleared by Clearcastbefore airing," explained Paddy Power. "This ad is simply a bit of mild-mannered fun in the runup to the Cheltenham festival."
