Willie Mullins is hoping that he can finally get Mikael D’Haguenet over fences this Christmas as the Irish sensation gets ready to make his eagerly-anticipated debut chasing.
Next year’ RSA Chase hopeful could not have been more impressive as a five-year-old, brushing aside everything he was faced with over hurdles. It meant Mullins’ star won each of his six starts with very little trouble and he registered big race successes at Cheltenham and Punchestown.
Now eyes are firmly on his new career over the bigger obstacles and while the debut has been delayed by minor setbacks, Mullins has admitted he is thrilled with the horse’s current condition.
"I'm hoping to get him to a beginners' chase at Christmas, but that will be touch and go," said the champion trainer.
"He's back doing nice exercise at the moment and if it stays dry, I'll get more exercise into him.
"Hopefully he might get some work at the end of this week but he's in good shape."
