2012 JCB Triumph Hurdle third Grumeti will run at Goodwood later this month as trainer Alan King eyes a trip to Royal Ascot.
King hopes that the versatile four-year-old can take his place in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at the Royal meeting but the trainer believes that there could be a chance his stable star misses the cut.
As a result, Grumeti will be aimed at Goodwood and the Brighton Argus Handicap on June 26th with King explaining: "The handicapper put Grumeti up 6lb to a mark of 89, but that would still not make him a certainty to get in at the Royal meeting.
"I looked up last year's Duke of Edinburgh and the last horse to make the cut was rated 91, so if runs well at Goodwood he might climb up the ratings sufficiently to get a run at Ascot.
"However, I would hate to let this Goodwood race pass us by so as to wait for Ascot and then find that we do not get in.”
Grumeti made a winning return to the Flat as Ascot earlier this month which was the first time he’d been seen since winning the Grade One 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree.
