Total totepool turnover at Cheltenham on Tuesday was up 15.6% at £2,360,557 compared to £2,042,415 in 2010 though this year’s card had an extra race in the shape of the Centenary Novices’ Steeple Chase.
The totejackpot was won at Cheltenham this afternoon with two winners landing the bet to 50p. The dividend was £142,083,50 which mean both winners pick up £71,041.75 each. One of the winners was a large-staking punter but the other placed just £20 on the bet in a Ladbrokes shop.
“The publicity surrounding Steve Whiteley’s record-breaking totejackpot win has undoubtedly helped boost Tote turnover both on and off-course and another two punters are celebrating another big payout on the bet on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival,” said totepool spokesman George Primarolo.
The turnover on the toteplacepot stood at £970,518 – the second highest in the history of the bet – but plenty of fancied horses hit the frame this afternoon and the dividend was £60.60. The totequadpot pool was up 34% on 2010 at £40,784.
