Philip Fenton is confident that Dunguib is ready to do himself justice in the Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on Tuesday week.

The superstar fluffed his lines when sent off favourite for last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, but the eight-year-old is nowhere near as fancied this time round and Fenton’s stable star warmed up for his trip to Prestbury Park with a success at Gowran Park last month.

That was the first time he’d been seen since April and he has already won at the Festival once before, powering home in the Champion Bumper in 2009. Fenton is excited about his latest target and he explained:  "Everything is fine, it's so far so good and we're not far away from it now. I couldn't be happier with him. All has gone to plan. He's come out of his Gowran race very well and all roads lead to Cheltenham.

"He did a bit of work on Wednesday and we were very pleased. He'll possibly do a bit next Wednesday as well and that will be that.  It's always a good Champion Hurdle but this year seems to be above average. We'd like to think we have a good chance. You just need a bit of luck."
