Leading jockey Barry Geraghty has admitted he is looking forward to seeing Oscar Whisky put his Champion Hurdle credentials on the line in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las on February 5.
Nicky Henderson’s six-year-old but up a sensational display at Cheltenham last week and the 2010 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle fourth looked like he could play a hand at the Festival in March.
With stablemate Binocular already heading the Henderson raid on the Champion Hurdle, Geraghty admitted that he was looking forward to seeing Oscar Whisky back in action as his owner Dai Walters plots his path to Cheltenham.
"Going into the race we were just hoping he was as good as we thought, so it was great that he did what he did," Geraghty explained.
"He was only four lengths behind Menorah in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle on his last run, and he was novicey enough that day.
"I'm not saying that he is a better horse than Menorah or that he would have beaten him if he had more experience, but I knew he wasn't far off a horse that I would consider to be one of the big players.
"Oscar Whisky could well be a Champion Hurdle horse now. He'll go for the Welsh equivalent on February 5 next and we'll know more after that, but he's certainly exciting."
