Connections of Champion Hurdle contender Menorah were left thrilled when Philip Hobbs’ six-year-old impressed in a racecourse gallop at Exeter on Tuesday.

The superstar hasn’t been seen since he powered to an impressive success over Supreme Novices’ Hurdle favourite Cue Card in the Grade 2 International Hurdle at Cheltenham in December, but Grade One winner looks to be in top form ahead of his trip to Prestbury Park next month.

With the likes of Binocular, Hurricane Fly and Peddlers Cross all in fine form ahead of the meeting Menorah will be facing his toughest task to date, but owner Owner Grahame Whateley said: "I wasn't there but my wife was and she told me he worked very well. It's a very difficult race, there are some cracking horses going this year: Binocular, Peddlers Cross, Hurricane Fly and Oscar Whisky. Everything has gone tickety-boo with him."

The Cheltenham Festival is less than two weeks away and the excitement ahead of the meeting is beginning to build with the likes of Kauto Star, Denman, Binocular and Imperial Commander all reportedly working well ahead of the showpiece.
