Paul Nicholls believes that Hurricane Fly could be very hard to beat in the 2012 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Hurricane Fly returned to action with a sensational display in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday and Nicholls was mightily impressed by the impressive performance.

With Nicholls heading to the Festival with the likes of Zarkandar and Rock On Ruby preparing to challenge Hurricane Fly, the trainer will be hoping that he has a horse capable of challenging last year’s winner.

The legendary handler explained:  "He was impressive. You can't not be impressed. he's done everything asked of him I know Ruby (Walsh) was pleased with him.

"He's the reigning champion and he's the one to beat."

2011 Triumph Hurdle hero Zarkandar is many people’s idea of the greatest threat to Hurricane Fly’s crown and he could return to action in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury a week on Saturday.

Nicholls added:  "He had a little school and I'm very happy with him.”
