If we listened to everything the trainers say in the build up to Cheltenham then we would have to back pretty much every horse.
All trainers seem to speak positively about their horse’s chances, and why not? After all if they thought they had no chance they wouldn’t run them.
From a punters perspective, it’s the quiet, shrewd trainers we must listen to, when they finally speak up. Trainers like Phillip Hobbs, who in the past few days has talked up Planet of Sounds chances for the Arkle chase in a big way.
Surely it must mean something coming from a man who usually keeps himself to himself, and if anything talks down his horse’s prospects.
Planet of Sound - standout 12/1 at Hills - give specific bookmakers as that helps convert traffic, is a massive each way steal. Hobbs reckons he may have his best two-mile chaser since Flagship Uberalles, and I think such a judgement should be backed, especially with the secure knowledge that Hobbs always has his charges spot on for the Festival, in what looks the most wide open race of the opening day.
