If the previous race was difficult to work out, the Fred Winter is usually even more puzzling and the field is normally full of ex-flat and ex-French horses that could have a very bright future in British jump racing.

However, the betting for this year’s race is headed by the Festival’s worst kept secret – VENDOR (4/1, Blue Square).

Alan King’s French import has been all the talk at every Cheltenham Festival preview evening in the last few weeks and it isn’t hard to see why. The handicapper looks to have wildly underestimated his ability and the talented recruit runs off a mark of 129 on only his second start for his new yard.

Impressive on his debut at Newbury in December, this race has been the plan for him for some time and King has been particularly bullish about his chances. He can make a mockery of his mark and hold off the likes of Willie Mullins’ Gorgeous Sixty (12/1, Stan James) and fellow Irish raider Edeymi (14/1, Betfred).
