Robert Thornton believes Fontwell winner Trenchant will have no problem stepping up to three miles for the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham.
Sporting blinkers for the first time, Alan King's five-year-old stayed on stoutly in the testing conditions to land the Grade Two National Spirit Hurdle.
The son of Medicean holds entries in the Coral Cup and the Pertemps at the Festival, but Thornton believes connections are currently favouring the latter.
"I think we're leaning towards the Pertemps for him as he'll definitely get three miles, although he might just have a lot of weight," said Thornton.
"He was fifth in the Triumph Hurdle last year so he's jumped round Cheltenham and hopefully he'll take his chance."
As well as high-profile rides on the likes Medermit in the Champion Hurdle, Twist Magic in the Champion Chase and Somersby in the Arkle Trophy, Thornton appears to have strong chances in a number of the lesser races.
"Sir Harry Ormesher will be my ride in the Coral Cup and he looks to have a nice chance," the jockey told At The Races.
"Bensalem is in the William Hill Trophy and looks to have a nice rating on 143.
"Although he wouldn't be guaranteed to run and might go for the RSA Chase, I think we're favouring the handicap with him at the moment.
"He's a massive horse and a proper stayer and although he's missed the odd one, his jumping is generally good.
"He's better than the mark he's got and hopefully he's got a great chance.
"I'm not surprised to see The Betchworth Kid has been backed for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and I like him.
"They didn't go much of a gallop at Kempton last time when I finished third on him.
"I've won the Albert Bartlett twice before and he'd definitely be the best horse I've ridden in it.
"I'm really looking forward to him and he has a great each-way chance."
Thornton can be backed at 16-1 with William Hill to be crowned the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival.
