Paddy Brennan has admitted he can’t wait to ride Imperial Commander in next month’s totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The reigning champion impressed when put through his paces at Kempton on Saturday and Brennan believes that Imperial Commander is back to his best ahead of the blue riband showpiece.

With the likes of Kauto Star, Denman and Long Run all on course for the eagerly anticipated Grade One it looks like it could be the best Gold Cup at Cheltenham for some time and Brennan commented:  "I was really pleased driving home on Saturday night and it's just great to have the horse back somewhere near his best. We have three more weeks until Cheltenham and everything's A1 now.

"He was more back to himself, giving me that feel, and I'm really looking forward to riding him now, the excitement's back and it would be amazing to win another Gold Cup. I'm counting down the days."

Imperial Commander has been off the track since he cut his leg when winning the Betfair Chase on his seasonal reappearance at Ascot and the gelding was forced to miss the King George VI Chase at Kempton.
