Paddy Brennan believes Imperial Commander will benefit from his racecourse gallop this week as the jockey prepares to ride the 2010 Gold Cup hero at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
Nigel Twiston-Davies’ ten-year-old was sent on a spin around Warwick on Monday and his trainer watched on as Brennan worked the superstar alongside two younger horses.
It had been reported that Brennan had to be pretty busy in the saddle and there have been worries about his fitness with the multiple Grade One winner absent since his victory in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November.
"He felt great and looked great," Brennan explained.
"I wasn't disappointed, but you'd like to think there's an awful lot of improvement. He'll have another racecourse gallop and I certainly wouldn't want to ride anything else at Cheltenham.
"He loves Cheltenham, has all the form and ticks all the right boxes. But, as everyone knows, it's never easy to win a Gold Cup."
