2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Imperial Commander will have a racecourse gallop at Newbury as he prepares to defend his title at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ superstar has not been seen since his victory in the Betfair Chase at Haydock and was forced to miss the King George at Kempton through injury.

The Naunton trainer is desperate to get a run into his Grade One-winning gelding before the Gold Cup on March 18th and he explained:  "He's great. He's working well and I'm going to talk to Newbury as we would like to take him there for a racecourse gallop in not too long a time.

"Everything's going to plan so far, touch wood."

Imperial Commander is the ante post favourite for the 2011 Gold Cup and punters supporting the star will be hoping that he can record back-to-back successes at the Festival in under six weeks time.
