Paddy Power offering odds of 8/1 on Champion Hurdle fancy The New One

The New One is being backed into 3/1 joint favouritism in Tuesday's Champion Hurdle but Paddy Power customers can get odds of 8/1 on Nigel Twiston-Davies's stable star.

Anyone who watched The New One romp to victory in last year's Neptune Novices' Hurdle knew that the horse was destined for a tilt at the 2014 Champion Hurdle and it was no surprise to see Nigel Twiston-Davies's stable star installed at the head of the betting for the feature race on the opening day of the 2014 Festival.

The horse does, of course, face stiff competition from two times Champion Hurdle winner Hurricane Fly but there is a growing optimism that Willie Mullins's Irish star can be overthrown. Afrter all, he was beaten two years ago by Rock on Ruby, who is a vastly inferior horse to The New One.

The bookies currently can't split the top two in the market, with The New One and Hurricane Fly available at 3/1 apiece. My Tent Or Yours, who beat The New One at Kempton ver Christmas but suffered a minor injury this week, is available at 5/1.

The Nicky Henderson horse is a class act but he shouldn't have beaten The New One at Kempton and John Francome summed up many observers' views when stating:

"It was not Sam Twiston-Davies' finest moment aboard The New One at Kempton over Christmas.

"He should have won that day and I think he will reverse the form with My Tent Or Yours."

The big question is whether he can overthrow Hurricane Fly?

However, one massive thing that sways the argument in favour of The New One is that Paddy Power are boosting the price of Twiston-Davies's runner from 3/1 to 8/1. This is almost three times the current best price and it turns the horse from a 'possible' to a 'definite' bet. The offer is open to all new customers and has a maximum stake of £10, which is a return of £90 should he win on Tuesday.
