Min will spearhead a team of three horses aiming to give trainer Willie Mullins a fourth consecutive winner of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the opening race on day one of the 2016 Cheltenham Festival.

The all-conquering Irishman has landed the last three runnings of the Tuesday curtain-raiser with Champagne Fever, Vautour and Douvan and saddles the favourite again in Min, who has won both starts since arriving at the County Carlow complex from France.

But the Mullins contingent for the Supreme has been depleted somewhat by the decision not to declare Yorkhill, who would also have been among the leading contenders for the race.

Mullins had been keen to wait until the last moment to confirm which Cheltenham Festival target Yorkhill would have, and the Graham Wylie-owned gelding is now likely to head for the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle on Wednesday.

Wylie still has a runner in the Supreme with Bellshill while the Mullins trio is completed by Petit Mouchoir, with stable jockey Ruby Walsh unsurprisingly having been confirmed as the rider of Min.

However, there will be stern opposition from the Nicky Henderson yard in the shape of his two runners Altior and Buveur d’air as the Lambourn trainer bids to win the Festival opener for a third time in all and first since 1992 when Flown added to the 1986 victory of River Ceiriog.

Altior has won all of his four starts over hurdles and will be ridden by Nico de Boinville, while Noel Fehily partners Buveur d’air who looks an exciting prospect after hacking up at Newbury and Huntingdon.

The Irish challenge is bolstered by three other contenders all with live place chances at least, namely Dermot Weld’s Silver Concorde, Henry de Bromhead’s Supasundae and Gordon Elliott’s Tombstone who has been chosen by jockey Bryan Cooper over the other Gigginstown House Stud runner Petit Mouchoir.

Former Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle and Grand National-winning trainer Kim Bailey will be hopeful of making a big impression with Charbel, the mount of David Bass.
