2014 Champion Hurdle tips - Tony McCoy keen on My Tent Or Yours chances

Despite having had to endure his son's health problems in the build-up, Tony McCoy insists he is still looking forward to the 2014 Cheltenham Festival and rates Stan James Champion Hurdle hope My Tent Or Yours as his ride of the week.

McCoy has partnered Make A Stand, Brave Inca and Binocular to victory in this race and has been impressed by this year's challenger, notably when getting the better of current market leader The New One in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.

"He won well at Kempton in the Christmas Hurdle and was impressive there," declared the champion jockey. "Obviously, The New One made a mistake and people will say he was unlucky, but I'm very happy that I'm riding My Tent Or Yours. I think he's my ride of the week."

Like many others, McCoy feels the Champion Hurdle is perfectly set up to be a classic renewal this season, with Hurricane Fly bidding to prevail for the third time but taken on by a host of rising stars.

"The Champion Hurdle looks a fascinating race," added AP. "Obviously Hurricane Fly being the reigning champion is probably the one we've all got to beat; he keeps going out there and doing it and that makes him favourite in my eyes.

"But there are a lot of young pretenders with The New One, Our Conor, My Tent Or Yours and Jezki trying to dethrone him and hopefully if one does it will be My Tent Or Yours. There's certainly lots of potential there with four or five of them.

"Obviously Hurricane Fly has been there before and done it and keeps winning, he's a great champion, but it makes it more exciting that there might be a rising star to take his crown."

Each year the Festival seems to get bigger and bigger, with the hype starting earlier and earlier, but McCoy wouldn't have it any other way and clearly feels success or failure at Cheltenham still defines an entire campaign in the eyes of many racing people.

"Cheltenham is the pinnacle of the sport," he commented on Racing UK. "It's what you think about at the beginning of the season when you are trying to find horses good enough to go there and give you good rides. Cheltenham is what it's all about and it's always all been about Cheltenham.

"In that sense it's no different and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm as excited now as I've ever been. I've been lucky to ride at a lot of Cheltenham Festivals and I'm not going to ride in as many in the future as I have in the past, that's for sure, but we'll enjoy the few that are left."
