Corrin Wood camp favouring RSA Chase bid

Donald McCain is still weighing up his Cheltenham Festival options with the progressive Corrin Wood but appears to be leaning towards the RSA Chase ahead of the National Hunt Chase.

The seven-year-old was a consistent performer over hurdles, winning at Carlisle and being placed in several other races, notably when a narrow second to Gevrey Chambertin at Haydock.

However, he has really blossomed since being put over the bigger obstacles, claiming victories at Market Rasen, Catterick and Warwick to enter calculations for a trip to Prestbury Park.

Corrin Wood's latest success looks a particularly rock-solid effort as he gradually wore down a decent yardstick in Black Thunder, who was previously unbeaten in three outings over fences.

"Obviously he was mightily impressive at Warwick the other week and we are thrilled with him at the moment," said McCain on his latest Betfair video blog. "We've got to weigh up whether we run him again or not, if we do we'll run him in the good novice chase at the next Ascot meeting.

"If not, we could still go straight to Cheltenham, with a view to running in either the RSA Chase or the four-miler, with the RSA being favourite at the moment, I would say. He's done nothing wrong, he's won all his chases and you can't help but be impressed with what he did the other day."
