Pont Alexandre heads 24 declared for 2013 Neptune Novices' Hurdle

The latest declarations are known for the 2013 Neptune Novices' Hurdle with star Irish novice Pont Alexandre heading the field of 24.

The five-year-old has been described by his trainer Willie Mullins as “one of the best novices we've had, apart from maybe Hurricane Fly,” which is praise indeed and he looks a worthy favourite for Wednesday's race (due off 2.05pm).

There were no real surprises at the latest declaration stage with all the principals holding their ground, including The New One, who is general second favourite. The five-year-old has already won at the track this season back in October, and finished a fine second last time to the smart At Fishers Cross, so deserves his position in the market.

Jonjo O'Neill's Challow Hurdle winner Taquin Du Seuil is also in the line-up, as expected, and forms part of a strong British challenge, which also includes impressive Ascot scorer Puffin Billy, Chatterbox, representing Nicky Henderson, and Tolworth winner Melodic Rendezvous.

The Irish challenge is made stronger by the presence of Rule The World from the Mouse Morris stable, and two other Willie Mullins-trained hurdlers in Un Atout and Champagne Fever, although the latter horse has yet to be confirmed a definite runner.
