Trainer David Pipe believes Dynaste is “rock solid” for his date with destiny in the Jewson Novices' Chase at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival on Thursday.

Connections of the seven-year-old grey opted for the two-and-a-half mile race instead of the RSA Chase over an extended three miles when it looked like the ground would be testing.

Dynaste has won all his three starts over fences at distances ranging from two and a half to three miles.

“He's in good form and we are looking forward to it," said Pipe. “He'll enjoy the track at Cheltenham and the fresh ground.

"He's done nothing wrong, is bigger and stronger this year, travels well and jumps nicely. He is straightforward and has a nice engine. He looks rock solid.”

Captain Conan is Dynaste's main market rival and also unbeaten in three starts.

Trainer Nicky Henderson said: “Captain Conan is a good horse. He wasn't that impressive last time in the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown and I think you will see the proper Captain Conan in the Jewson.

“He’s one I've been really looking forward to. I thought Dynaste was going for the RSA and this would be the right race for Captain Conan, but suddenly it looks a hot race.

"However, I think he's better than he was at Sandown, that wasn't him, and this ground will suit.”

Third Intention was only beaten a neck by Captain Conan at Sandown and his jockey Joe Tizzard expects another good run.

“He was just touched off and probably should have beaten Captain Conan last time,” said Tizzard.

“He ran a blinder and deserves to be here, but obviously there’s Dynaste and horses like that. I think it's the most competitive novice chase of the week. But he's got a chance.”
