2014 Ryanair Chase tips - Al Ferof to strike in sensational Ryanair

The Ryanair looks to be one of the races of the Festival and Nick has been taking a look at the contest.

The Ryanair picture has changed considerably since Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card were both ruled out of the Festival.  The Champion Chase now looks a much more open contest and Ryanair punters don’t need to worry about the presence of Cue Card in the famous Grade One.

It leaves Thursday’s showpiece looking very competitive and last year’s runner-up First Lieutenant sits at the head of the betting.  He is sure to run a huge race and it isn’t hard to see him in the places, but one victory in twelve attempts at the highest level is slightly worrying and he looks likely to have to play second best once again.

Last year’s Jewson hero Benefficient is sure to be popular in search of a second Festival success and the classy Dynaste can’t be forgotten despite his flop in the King George on Boxing.  However, AL FEROF looks the horse to be on this time around and Paul Nicholls’ hugely talented chaser can add another big-race success to his CV.

Wins in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival and then the Paddy Power Gold Cup confirmed that he is one of the best in the business on his day and there is every reason to believe that he has returned as good as ever after missing last season through injury.

A victory in a Grade Two on his comeback was followed by a creditable third in the King George on Boxing Day, where it looked like he didn’t stay after being heavily backed in the build up to the contest.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup was ruled out once and for all after he was hammered in heavy ground by Harry Topper at Newbury last month and he will now drop back to his optimum 2m5f trip in the Ryanair Chase.

A fantastic jumper who will appreciate running left-handed on better ground, Al Ferof will have everything in his favour at the Festival and he can return to winning ways with a second Cheltenham Festival success.
