2014 World Hurdle tips - Annie Power fancied to strike it rich for Ricci

Annie Power

Colourful owner Rich Ricci and his wife Susannah have already enjoyed a great 2014 Cheltenham Festival and are now looking for Annie Power to provide the icing on the cake in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.

After Vautour stormed to victory in the Supreme on Tuesday and Faugheen then powered up the hill in the Neptune, Annie Power is now a firm favourite to continue the good run of Ricci, Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh.

The mare is unbeaten in 10 racecourse appearances, including three successful trips to England already this season, scoring at Ascot, Cheltenham and Doncaster.

This will be her first attempt at three miles, but she was galloping on strongly up the hill when slamming Zarkandar over 2m 5f at Prestbury Park on New Year's Day when the going was soft, so hopes are high that stamina will not be an issue on good ground here.

"You can't really be certain until she goes and does it, but I think she will stay," insisted Walsh. "Her pedigree is all stamina and the further she goes, the more it should suit her. We all felt this is the right race for her."

Meanwhile, Ricci was quick to praise his trainer and jockey after Faugheen had landed an almighty gamble in the Neptune Management Investment Novices' Hurdle, comfortably accounting for Ballyalton and stablemate Rathvinden.

There had been some doubts about the six-year-old's jumping ability and he did flatten the third-last hurdle, but once turning for home there was only going to be one winner and he lived up to being billed as "a machine" by trainer's son Patrick.

"We thought a ton of him last season, but couldn't get him here," said Barclays bank boss Ricci. "He's been a very difficult horse to keep right, but Willie and the whole team have done a magical job with him. He's great for the future.

"They do a great job sourcing these horses for us. I was watching racing on TV one day and really liked the feel of everything, so we got involved and were immediately hooked."
