2014 Cheltenham Festival tips - At Fishers Cross stable in cracking form ahead of World Hurdle

At Fishers Cross

Supporters of At Fishers Cross received a timely boost ahead of his Ladbrokes World Hurdle bid when Rebecca Curtis claimed victory in the RSA Chase with O'faolains Boy at the 2014 Cheltenham Festival.

The Newport handler made it five winners from her last 11 runners as her charge got the better of Smad Place in a titanic tussle up the hill and the omens are good for At Fishers Cross to keep the hot streak going.

"It's amazing to get another winner at the Cheltenham Festival," declared Curtis. "Before Christmas our horses weren't running great, but they are now and we knew he was very well coming here."

Curtis sent out Teaforthree to land the 2012 National Hunt Chase and At Fishers Cross in last year's Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and she is hopeful of another big run from the JP McManus-owned gelding.

After disappointing at Newbury and Ascot in his first two runs this term, the son of Oscar showed much more zest when finishing strongly to go down by just a short-head to Knockara Beau in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham, with Big Buck's back in third.

"I don't think he was right for his first couple of runs," said Curtis. "We had something going through the yard and I think he was affected by that. He's come right now, though, and I think there is room for more improvement.

"He went on good ground at Aintree last April so I'm not bothered what conditions are like really. He's in great form. It's going to be a tough race, but he's as good as we've ever had him and hopefully he'll run well."

Tony McCoy chose the wrong one in the Champion Hurdle when My Tent Or Yours was just edged out by Jezki and he faced another tough decision here, with McManus also owning More Of That, but the champion jockey is happy with his mount.

"He felt much more like his old self on Trials Day in January," said AP. "He needs to step up again but things are going the right way and I know Rebecca believes he has turned a corner."
