Ballynagour will 'take all the beating' in 2013 Byrne Group Plate says Pipe

Trainer David Pipe has confirmed that the well-backed Ballynagour will take up his engagement Thursday's Byrne Group Plate.

The gelding had been left in several races at the Festival with connections keen to explore all options, so his ante post backers for the 2m4f contets would have let out a collective sigh of relief at the news.

Pipe revealed his plans in his Saturday column, saying:

“Plenty can happen between now and next week but our plans for Cheltenham are starting to come together and the first thing I can tell you today is Ballynagour is set to run in Thursday's Byrne Group Plate, the race we won with Salut Flo last season.

“This looks the ideal stepping-stone, over the same trip he won so impressively at Warwick last month.

“He will be left in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle as well but he'll probably end up in the Byrne Group.

“We haven't done very much with him since Warwick but if he runs like he did there he'll take a lot of beating - although he hasn't put two good runs together yet.”

Pipe is referring to his previous form in France where he proved inconsistent, so his backers are banking on the old Pipe magic in a race the stable has won several times.
