2013 Byrne Group Plate - Gary Moore keen on chances of in-form Vino Griego

Gary Moore is looking forward to running his Vino Griego in the Byrne Group Plate on the Thursday of the Cheltenham Festival.

The race promises to be one of the most competitive races of the four-day meeting with the David Pipe-trained Ballynagour, a runaway scorer at Warwick last time, having been confirmed for the race, which is also set to feature Hunt Ball.

Other possibles for the 2m5f contest include Lucinda Russell's Tap Night, an impressive Ayr winner last time, and the progressive Cantlow, but Moore is full of hope for his hat-trick seeking chaser, saying:

“I couldn't be more pleased with him. He will do his last piece of work in the morning [Saturday].

“He will have blood tests and scope on Monday and that's good he is set to go. I'm pleased to see the rain and I hope it keeps coming down.

“It's not going to be easy but no race is at Cheltenham. I'm not concerned about stepping down in trip but I am worried about the 7lb he has gone up for Ascot. But it's not the end of the world.

Moore is also hoping for a big run from Fruity O'Rooney, who will be bidding to improve on last year's second place in the JLT Speciality Handicap Chase on Tuesday.

“I was pleased with his run there [Cheltenham] in January behind Katenko, who was one of the fancied horses in the Gold Cup.

“Two miles five didn't suit him; he wants three miles,” said Moore, who also revealed that his Grand National Trial winner Well Refreshed will take his chance in Saturday's Midlands Grand national, providing “it keeps raining”.
