2013 Ryanair Chase runners and full field

First Lieutenant was amongst the eight runners declared for the Ryanair Chase on the Thursday of the Cheltenham Festival.

The Mouse Morris-trained chaser was also in line to the run in Friday's Gold Cup, for which he was quietly fancied, but this race looks the softer option and he will line up here as the likely favourite, with Coral going a top price of 11/4.

The eight-year-old is no stranger to success at the Cheltenham Festival, having won the Neptune Novices' Hurdle two seasons ago and finished runner-up to Bobs Worth in last season's RSA Chase, so he looks sure to make a bold bid to win the race sponsored by his owner.

Cue Card (10/3 bet365) looks his chief rival according to the betting, with the Colin Tizzard-trained gelding putting in a career best effort last time when winning the Betfair Ascot Chase. He made virtually all that day, as he did when winning the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance, and similar tactics are likely to be deployed.

Riverside Theatre (6/1 Boylesports) returns to the scene of his greatest triumph having landed this contest 12 months ago, despite a catalogue of errors. He lines up this time with questions to answer, though, having not run since flopping in the King George. The drying ground will help his cause.

Champion Court (6/1 Ladbrokes) is no stranger to success here having won twice at the track and he arguably ran his best race here in defeat, when runner-up to Sir Des Champs in the 2012 Jewson Novices' Chase. An odds-on defeat in a small race at Kempton last time can perhaps be excused and he looks sure to run another big race at a track he loves.

This time of year seems to suit Menorah (8/1 Boylesports) as he's a past winner of Supreme Novices' Hurdle and won a Grade 1 at Aintree last April. He can make mistakes but given a clear round he must go well.

Albertas Run (14/1 BetVictor) is bidding to turn back the clock having won this race twice before and finished third to Riverside Theatre in last year's renewal. He cannot be ruled out with any confidence.

The Nick Williams-trained For Non Stop and Ghizao, representing Paul Nicholls, make up the final.
