2014 Triumph Hurdle tips - Royal Irish Hussar to bounce back in the Cheltenham opener

Nick Wilby in Fri. 17th March 14 Mar 2014

Nick takes a look at the Triumph Hurdle on Friday and gives his tips on the Grade One highlight.

The final day of the Festival kicks off with the Triumph Hurdle and dual-Newbury winner Calipto heads the betting for an open looking contest.

Paul Nicholls’ son of Califet has been impressive on both starts this season and looks to be learning more with every start.  Connections of the horse appear to be full of confidence ahead of the race and he’ll be a tough nut to crack.

Last year’s winning trainer Dessie Hughes saddles Guitar Pete who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Our Conor and his Grade One success at Leopardstown last time out certainly looks to give him a chance.

However, he was behind the highly regarded ROYAL IRISH HUSSAR at Cheltenham earlier in the season and Nicky Henderson’s youngster can confirm the form here.

The selection has been given a break since he was turned over by Broughton at Doncaster on bad ground and he will arrive at Prestbury Park a fresh horse.

He was ante post favourite for this race earlier in the season and he can power into the winner’s enclosure on better ground.

Selection - ROYAL IRISH HUSSAR
