The County Hurdle looks one of the most puzzling contests of the week and 28 horses will battle it out in the famous handicap.

Cotton Mill (7/1, Boylesports) has to be massively respected after his second to My Tent Or Yours in the Betfair Hurdle, but his proximity to the winner might not be worth focussing on too much as he could have won by as far as he liked.

He is sure to go well despite a 5lb hike in the weights, while Ted Veale has looked very classy on recent starts and he is sure to travelling well at the business end of the race.

However, a chance is take on MIDNIGHT GAME (25/1, Stan James) who has slowly been returning to the horse that his trainer had always hoped.  The six-year-old flopped in the 2012 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, but the vibes coming out of the Mullins yard were not good then and it was disappointing that a horse with so much potential had seemingly lost his way.

He has looked much better so far this season and had he not been worried out of the finish at Navan last time out, he would be three from three this campaign.  He has plenty in his locker and although he doesn’t look thrown in off 150, he certainly has the class to run well off that mark.

Nick Wilby’s selection – Midnight Game (25/1, Stan James)
