4.00 Mares' Hurdle Race

Day one of the Cheltenham Festival usually quietens down after the Champion Hurdle, but this year all eyes will be on Quevega as Willie Mullins' charge seeks an unprecedented sixth straight success in the Mares' Hurdle.

Originally named after training great David Nicholson, the first running of this race was won by Whiteoak in 2008, but since then it has all been about one very special lady.

With Ruby Walsh on board, Quevega prevailed by 14 lengths from United in 2009 and has since gone on to beat Carole's Legacy, Sparky May, Kentford Grey Lady and Sirene D'Ainay in this 2m 4f contest.

Only the mighty Golden Miller has achieved the same feat of winning a Festival race for five straight seasons when dominating the Gold Cup in the 1930s, so how remarkable it would be if Quevega were to make it a historic six of the best.
