4.40 Kim Muir

Amateur riders get another chance to shine at the Cheltenham Festival in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup, but it is the big trainers who have monopolised this race in recent years.

Martin Pipe, Nicky Henderson and Donald McCain have all bagged a brace of wins in the last dozen renewals, while David Pipe, Jonjo O'Neill and Nigel Twiston-Davies were the last three successful handlers.

Originally just named after Kim Muir, a cavalry officer who lost his life during World War II, in 1991 the title was extended to also honour Fulke Walwyn, who trained 211 winners at Cheltenham, including 40 Festival triumphs.

With 19 fences to be jumped over a distance just further than 3m 1f, Sraid Padraig has been backed by ante-post punters to give Ireland a rare victory, with Tony Martin's charge having shown great heart to oblige at Fairyhouse in November.
